Prepare Gratiot

The goal of Prepare Gratiot is to ensure that residents of Gratiot County will be safer in their homes because they have adequate training to be fully prepared – and the knowledge and skills to best respond in an emergency situation.

So far…our Prepare Gratiot program has:

  • Trained and re-certified school personnel in CPR and First Aid
  • Helped ensure that at least one building in each district has an AED on site
  • Assisted teachers in certifying over 150 students in CPR and First Aid

Beyond the schools – we are reaching out to families, community groups, churches and businesses to ensure that we can ALL “Be Red Cross Ready

Here’s what you can do:

  • Contact Don Stabenow at 463-3209 to schedule a FREE preparedness presentation
  • Join our Speakers’ Bureau and get trained so YOU can go out and present the Red Cross message
  • Help families develop home emergency plans and kits

In 2006/2007:

  • Heart disease was the leading cause of death in Gratiot County
  • Injuries were the third largest killer of Gratiot residents under the age of 20
  • 17 families received Red Cross assistance to recover from a disaster
  • Only 4% of Gratiot County residents are currently certified in CPR, First Aid and Water Safety

It’s time to make Gratiot County safer and more prepared!

How can your business support the effort? Sponsor employees to become Red Cross instructors who will train school staff and other community members in First Aid and CPR. As an added benefit, these employees can train the rest of your staff, preparing your workplace for any emergency!
