Gratiot Baby Pantry

The American Red Cross Baby Pantry has been operating in Gratiot County since March 1999.  Like all of our Red Cross programs, it is supported by funding from the United Way of Gratiot County, as well as generous donations from individuals, local businesses, churches, schools, community organizations and service clubs.

The Baby Pantry is open to all infants and toddlers in need (newborn through age 4 ½) who reside in Gratiot County.

Parents are welcome to the supplies they need including diapers, jar food, formula, gently used clothing and personal care items as they are available and within the specified guidelines listed below:

GUIDELINES

DIAPERS

  • One package of ten diapers per child under age 3 each visit
  • One package of five pull-ups per child under age 3 ½ each visit (when available)

FORMULA/FOOD

  • One can of powdered formula or two cans of liquid formula each visit if not receiving assistance from WIC and/or DHS, each month if receiving assistance from WIC and/or DHS
  • One jar vegetables, one jar fruit, one juice and one box cereal per child under age 1 each visit if not receiving assistance from WIC and/or DHS, each month if receiving assistance from WIC and/or DHS

CLOTHING

Clothing as below once a month per child under age 4½

  • 5 outfits
  • 3 onesies
  • 3 bibs
  • 3 pairs of socks
  • 3 pajamas/sleepers
  • 3 bottles
  • 3 blankets
  • 1 pair of shoes
  • 1 coat per season

BABY FURNITURE AND LARGE ITEMS

Due to lack of storage space, we require that donors call first to see if there is a need for the item. A waiting list is available for clients who need cribs, high chairs, potty chairs, car seats, etc. These items are only accepted on the Tuesday before pantry is scheduled.

PANTRY HOURS

The pantry is open the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. with the exception of holidays and bad weather days as defined by the Alma Public Schools.  Notification will be given at least a week in advance if the pantry will be closed for holidays.  Please listen to the radio or television for school closings.

We ask that you park BEHIND the building in City Lot # 2 or ACROSS Woodworth Avenue in City Lot # 4.  Please use the marked parking spaces.  DO NOT park directly behind the building and/or block the doorways of businesses with the building.  Violators may be towed at owner’s expense.  Thank you.

DONATION OF ITEMS

Donations are accepted during regular pantry hours.  Clothing (up to size 5 ONLY) must be clean and in good condition.  Food items must not have exceeded their expiration date.
